Where do you live?: ksa
Hi, guys how are you doing?
a little about me, i am originally from Ethiopia and i live and work in KSA. my job is network administrator. right now, i have a problem with win serve 2003 configuration and i need help. here it goes-
I have windows 2003 server with 2NIC's and the 1st NIC is acting as DHCP server (database server) connected with 20 DHCP workstation clients. While, the 2nd NIC is connected to the Router and the configuration is just like this:-
DHCP SERVER 1ST NIC
IP Address = 192.168.0.1
Subnet = 255.255.255.0
G.W = No
DNS = 192.168.0.1
2nd NIC (internet)
Router = 192.168.1.1
IP Address = 192.168.1.2
Subnet = 255.255.255.0
G.W = 192.168.1.1
DNS = 192.168.1.1
All the work stations are not connected with an internet just only accessing a windows application from the server. And they have only one network interface card. Right now, my boss said "all the clients must have an internet access because we will have a WEB application soon". So, I like to connect the Router to the DHCP server as a gate way so that all the clients will have an internet connection.
I think the structure of the network was not configured properly by some one before I joined the company. Any way, the IP Address of the DHCP server shouldn't be = 192.168.0.1 because this address should be reserved for a Router and this will be like this:-
DHCP SERVER
IP Address = 192.168.0.2
Subnet = 255.255.255.0
G.W = 192.168.0.1
DNS = 192.168.0.2
Right now, my question is how can I change the Router to the DHCP server as a Gate way? I have never read or see like this before but how about if I use the gate way IP Address = 192.168.0.2? Because the DHCP
address pool starts from 192.168.0.20-192.168.0.254
and the
reserved address is 192.168.0.1-192.168.1.19
. I am really confused what to do?
Please guys I need your help?
Thanks
